I have an MT1 on my motorcycle, with the latest current firmware (V1.0_20220707). The Android app worked okay when I installed the system last year, but when I needed to access video today it's completely unusable. After multiple attempts I can sometimes establish a wifi connection from my phone (no VPN), but none of the buttons or functions in the app work. On one occasion I managed to activate the settings, but none of the dropdown menus (video, system, other) would open.

I then deleted the Viofo app and reinstalled from play store. After this, the settings remain 99% unusable, but I also no longer have live view in the app. On one occasion I got as far as opening System Settings, but couldn't change anything.

I then tried installing the Viofo app on my Android tablet (no VPN). Despite establishing a strong wifi connection, the app refuses to engage with my MT1. Clicking 'connect to my dashcam' results in a momentary search icon circling, and then the app goes to "Guide" and tells me to link the wifi. The wifi is already connected (with an Excellent signal) but the app doesn't see this.

This is really frustrating, and going by the Play store reviews I'm not the only user having these problems. I'm frustrated & disappointed, we've used and recommended Viofo dashcams in our family cars for years (I bought another A119V3 for my daughter only a few months ago), but the car devices can be configured by manual manual buttons and the screen. The MT1 doesn't have that capability, if it can't be configured & controlled through the app then it's absolutely useless. I now cannot trust this dashcam to protect me.

I've taken as many screenshots as I can - the problem seems to be coding, as error messages referring to "unexpected tokens" pop up. Really grateful if you could have a look and make any suggestions to rectify this. Thanks.

Just in case Viofo does not see your post you may want to request help directly by submitting a ticket here;

Can you remove the SD Card, and insert it into your laptop to view the recorded footage?
@Nigel has one of these MT1 units, maybe he will stop by with some help.

It looks like the VIOFO app is receiving XML data from the MT1 it's not expecting or it's receiving malformed XML response(s) from the MT1.

When there's been bad/odd HTTP requests or responses between the VIOFO app and one of their dash cameras, I've used a packet capture app (tPacketCapture) on an Android 9 phone to capture the HTTP traffic between the two devices (phone = client, dash camera = HTTP server). After getting the problem to occur, I would terminate the packet capture, transfer the packet capture file (pcap file) to my Windows laptop and use the Wireshark program to look at the HTTP traffic between the two devices to look for the "problem".

When the problem would only occur on an iPhone, I was having difficulty in finding a way to capture the HTTP requests/responses between the iPhone and the dash camera. I tried various iOS apps that claimed to capture HTTP network traffic, but either they didn't capture any HTTP traffic or the VIOFO app didn't work with the that app's packet capture "running". That's one of the reasons I purchased an Apple Mac Mini M2. You can use a remote virtual interface feature using the rvictl command which is provided by the free Xcode developer package. You connect your iPhone with your Mac using a cable and then use the rvictl command to manage the packet capture session. I haven't had to use the Mac Mini M2 too much for that purpose, but it's nice to have the option when the need arises.

There's no way a VIOFO customer would/should be expected to go to that level of effort, but sometimes it requires seeing what's being sent/received to figure things out. It also helps that I wrote Java device adapter code for an IoT reporting plateform for 15 years.

Thanks, that fixed it! All functions & settings now accessible.
Really appreciate the quick reply, my faith in Viofo wasn't misplaced :)

NB - I did check whether there was a newer firmware, but the support site said that V1.0_20220707 was the latest version. (https://support.viofo.com/support/s...853-viofo-mt1-motorcycle-dash-camera-firmware). Maybe that's obsolete information and should be removed or redirected to https://viofo.com/content/76-MT1-support/
