Crackle and white noise from U1000 when starting car after BAB-50 battery has died

Guys, are you sure you have installed the Thinkware Dash Cam correctly?

The dashcam must be permanently powered by the car battery.

When you turn off the car, the dashcam must still have power.

If your installer connected the dashcam's power cables incorrectly, i.e. not always powered on, the dashcam will make those screeching sounds.

To check if your dashcam is permanently powered, you can use a tester to check if the voltage is available even when the car is off.

If the power supply to the dashcam is not permanently connected then you must go back to your installer (electrician) and ask him to connect your Dashcam in a point where it is always powered.

In this way you can also successfully activate the parking mode and if you use the radar (purchasable as an accessory), the dashcam will only start recording if someone passes in front of the windshield and therefore you will save battery.

This is not correct . the camera does NOT have to be on all the time . (only if you want parkmode)
when the engine's switched off, the camera will save the last clip and then shut itself down.

Furthermore, if you fit the radar accessory then you will only have recording if someone passes in front of the windshield.

The dashcam will be permanently powered on if it is powered by a hardwiring cable, and or an OBD II power cable with the parking mode enabled. Using a 12V power cable won't give you access to parking mode, but for some point, some vehicles still provide power using a 12V cigarette port but we do not recommend enabling the parking mode when using 12V as the result will drain your vehicle's battery.

The radar module is available only for selected models of Thinkware Dashcams such as Q1000, U1000, and X1000, and the latest U3000 has a built-in radar. All Thinkware Dashcams are supported with parking mode even without the radar.

again: the camera needs to be permanently powered ONLY when you want park mode (either with or without radar)

if you don't want this, the camera can just switch off when engine switches off .
and it does this without any noise, cos it uses the internal capacitator to save the last clip and then switch off properly.

The dashcam must always be powered otherwise the parking mode which is an option that can be set in the options will not work.

It is therefore obvious that the camera must be permanently installed with power supply so that it can be used as desired with or without parking mode.
 
i have said it TWICE now; the camera does NOT need to stay on if you do NOT want to use park mode.

your statement was that if camera switches off with the engine, this creates the noise as described by OP.

Again this is NOT true, as the camera switches off by itself in the same way a PC does:
IE it's not a simple power cut, but the camera takes time to save the last clip and then powers itself down.

This is normal behaviour and does not cause any noises.

i can't work out if you're taking the piss or if you English is not so good and you don't understand what I'm writing
 
So last week I started noticing the static noise when I turn off the vehicle. I've had my U1000 since July 2021, never had a problem, until now.

I reached out to support and since I'm out of warranty, they offered me a discount or I can send it in for repair.

Here's a video of mine.... (video starts with the vehicle ON then I turned it OFF, then back ON again)

 
It's exactly the same noise my U1000 makes !

I wrote dozens of emails to support and the seller.

After 2 months of exchanging emails and the data they told me to send them, they both washed their hands of it.

I was left with the defective dashcam without any help from them.

I purchased through the Tipronet site and within a month I notified them of the problems with my dash cam.

A certain Axel responded to me with a contemptuous tone and mocked me.

The result? No reply to my email ever.

Only after Thinkware wrote to them did I get a response saying the warranty had expired!

Expired? I didn't claim the warranty within the month but they never responded.

Instead of helping them they were completely disinterested.

What service is this?

This is definitely a scandal that everyone should know: if there are problems they don't help and actually do further damage by making people wait.

I have had all the interviews and will open a complaint for damages through my lawyer.

Besides the noise does the camera work as it should ?
meaning:

if you do not use parkmode, the camera should save the last clip and then shut down.
( And If you do use parkmode it should save the last clip before it goes into this mode. )

It could be that the internal capacitor is defective and that the camera doesn't have enough power to shut down in a proper manner.
this is very important in case you have a serious accident and the power to the camera is cut;
If the capacitor is defective, the camera can not save the last clip (with the accident)

My previous U1000 did have the same sound as yours, but the camera worked correctly so it didn't bother me so much.
