The VIOFO WM1 is a unique style dash cam from VIOFO which was released in April 2023. VIOFO is well known for their wedge shaped dash cams so this form factor without a screen is a departure for them.
The WM1 uses the Novatek NT96565 processor and Sony IMX335 Exmor R Starvis CMOS. This is the same CMOS sensor as the popular A119 V3 and while older, it is proven hardware.
Video Quality
The VIOFO WM1 records 1440p (Quad HD) video at 30fps with an average bitrate of 28 Mbps. Video quality during the day is very good and night quality is good. Quality is a slightly worse than the popular A119 V3 but most users will find it hits the mark.
The WM1 records using the H.264 codec but there is a hidden option for H.265 recording. If you long press the MIC button, the codec will switch from H.264 to H.265. While H.265 codec results in smaller file sizes, we suggest sticking with the H.264 codec as older computers may not be compatible with the H.265 codec.
Features
The VIOFO WM1 departs from the wedge shaped family that VIOFO is known for. The camera does not come with a screen but does include a g-sensor and has built in GPS.
The camera also comes with 2.4 GHz WiFi and has apps for Android and iOS. You will need to rely on the app for all settings on this camera since it does not have a screen.
Note that the app isn’t the highest rated and downloading files to your phone is a slow process as the WM1 does not come with 5 GHz WiFi. While most users find the app fine, there some users have had issues and this can be frustrating as it is the primary way to interact with this camera.
The VIOFO WM1 is a medium sized camera at 98 x 31 x 25mm but does mount discretely with adhesive. In addition, the camera comes with audio error notifications.
Like other VIOFO cameras, the WM1 supports 3 parking modes:
- Auto event detection or buffered parking mode
- Time-lapse parking mode
- Low bitrate parking mode
To enable these parking modes, you will need to hardwire the dash cam to your car (the Viofo 3-wire hardwire kit has a low voltage cutoff and is recommended)
Support
VIOFO is responsive to questions and have adequate support. They also provide regular firmware updates and take into consideration user feedback. VIOFO also provides a 18 month warranty (12 months plus an additional 6 months if you register online) which is better than most dash cams.
Known problems
There have been no know issues with this camera since its release.

Should I Purchase?
The VIOFO WM1 has a unique no-screen design with good 2K video. App is not the best which could be a problem for some given the cam does not have a screen. Overall a reasonable buy but would consider the slightly more expensive VIOFO Mini 2 instead as it comes with a STARVIS 2 sensor.
