VIOFO A229 Pro / Video and Screenshots

Download is too risky.
Can you upload the raw file to YouTube?
-Chuck
There is not much risk with an mp4 file, just as long as it doesn't have .exe on the end of the .mp4. gse is fairly well trusted anyway!

Not much wrong with viewing the dropbox version in the viewer without downloading though, OK, it's not 4K, but Youtube doesn't give perfect 4K anyway!

With snow it is the exposure that is difficult, and many cameras fail with, and you can see in the 1080 version that it has got the exposure pretty much perfect and has done a good job of the colour of the snow on the road.

I won’t upload it to YouTube, because... There is audio using copyright.
You can mute audio in your “Studio”.

Part of the reason I would like to see the "raw" footage on YouTube is so I can compare it to my YouTube footage of the A229 Pro.

Snow / winter.

We got 20 CM a few weeks ago and it is gone now, it was also sub zero for a few days so needed to put heat on, but i am now back to cold radiators as they are not needed.
I do wish i had a more modern apartment, CUZ this one is post war and so not well insulated so i need 10 candles to warm up my living room above 20 deg C, it would be better to do the same with 3 candles.
O and of course my PC which is a not insignificant heat source even idling on desktop its still 180 watts CUZ old Threadripper HEDT machine.

I love global warming.

Screenshots from the interior camera installed on the windshield, just to the right of the left pillar.
Unfortunately, I did not find a suitable cable to install the rear camera on the windshield.

Night.

interior camera
Based on my testing I found the IR Interior camera has the best HDR performance, compared to the front & rear cameras.
However, Alex (Viofo) told me the focus length is optimized for 1 Meter (passenger compartment).
But it looks like it has no problem reading license plates.

But it looks like it has no problem reading license plates.
At times, readability is even better than that of the main camera. But I think it depends on where it is installed on the windshield.
If the main module is installed as close as possible to the oncoming lane, the reading of license plates of oncoming vehicles will improve.

Very nice.
Do you have any other dash cams in the car to compare with?
(A139 Pro, A229 Plus, A119 Mini 2)
It's hard to judge image quality without anything to compare it too.

thanks for the comparison. Do you know what are the strips at the top pictures of Mini 2? Does the A229pro run hotter than the Mini 2? I prefer the image quality of A229pro but am concerned about the heat as reported by Panzer Platform:

@Panzer Platform, did you compare the operating temperature of Mini 2 and the A229 Pro in same environment? thanks

Here's a night footage from mine:

Here's for the rear. Pardon the dirty rear windshield:

I'm really impressed by the clarity of the footages, even at night.

Video, night, street lighting, reading GNZ, original video in the description of the video:

Resolution - 3840 * 2160
Bitrate - maximum 60 Mbit/sec
Expo - (-0.3)
CPL - On
HDR - On

Screenshots from the rear camera installed on the windshield just to the right of the left pillar.
As Viofo states, HDR is present on all cameras and it is noticeable. But here's how it turns on/off. unclear.
Judging by the screenshots, HDR is turned on on the rear camera, although it has already been turned off on the main camera.

Morning.

Thank you for testing this.
I also test HDR effectiveness of each camera.
I was confused only the front camera text overlay says; "HDR" at the bottom of the screen.
I asked for Rear & IR cameras to display "HDR" at the bottom of the screen to no avail.

I watched a video from the rear camera taken at different times of the day and judging by the video, the HDR on the rear camera is constantly on...
Before that, I checked the interior camera and it was clear that its HDR turned on and off simultaneously with the main camera.

Correct.
When HDR is enabled it functions on all cameras, (front, rear, IR).
When HDR is disabled it does not function on any camera.
I requested separate / independent controls for HDR for each camera, (front, rear, IR) to no avail.
The Vantrue S1 Pro has separate HDR controls for front & rear.

I didn’t notice that HDR was turned off on the rear camera.
Here are a couple more screenshots in which HDR is supposedly turned off.
On the main camera it is definitely turned off, but the rear camera is questionable.
