FoxOffer Dome G90 Dashcam Review - A7LA30, OV4689 CMOS

I've just made a massive beginners error. Just done 90 minutes of driving and forgot I'd used the memory card in the 402G earlier so it was pretty much full - as the files were in a different folder the camera has been looping the same 750MB so it captured not a lot of footage! I forgot to format the card!!!!
That has happened to me as well while switching between cameras.
Not that you would probably do this, but if you re name a file on the card at least on cameras I have worked with the loop will not overwrite is as well. I had renamed files while on the card, dragged them over to my PC and forgot to delete them and days later they were still there.

Thanks for more pictures. appreciate the in depth go through. Have you had some time to play around with locking files?

Where did you mount the dashcam?

I'll go through some of that tonight as just dropped the car off to try and fix another engine fault (they swapped the wrong part on Monday!!)

As we're not supposed to be able to see the screens here in the UK I mounted the camera high up so that the screen sits behind the rear view mirror, but so that I can just see the two LEDs on the left of the unit to see that it is recording ok.

Locking wise I'll try when I get the car back (I left the camera in there) - worst case it will be tomorrow (The England game is on tonight so wasn't too bothered about having it back just for this evening).

So what's the verdict?
G90 better than NT96650 based cameras?

My car is still in the workshop from Thursday mate with what appears to be a wiring loom fault so no updates - the camera is in there too so nothing at all to report since my last update.

Right my car is back along with the cameras so I'll get some footage today / tonight as I'm working until the early hours.

@billknow are there any firmware updates for this one yet please?

Bit of a strange one - I did a reset to defaults of all the settings which has turned the microphone off and there's no menu option I can see to turn it back on again!

Be careful with this as it will reset the camera back into Russian, although it's simple to get it back into English. As for the microphone not sure how I'll get that back on!

And if you notice the price of fuel on the pump yes we do pay $8.45 a gallon for gas here in the UK!

I've not updated the time since the reset which is why the timestamp is out but here's more footage from today:

This camera really needs a firmware update!

In case anybody's interested:

Here is a video comparing the Mobius Regular Lens to the G90 during the day:

Is it possible to upload the raw footage from the G90 please as I'd like to see how it compares to this one in terms of detail and chroma noise.

Also could you confirm the firmware version of that one? The G90 looks superior to me in that comparison but it is hard to tell at that size with a laptop screen.

Thanks in advance :)

Thanks - that looks excellent in the daytime! Is there anything else after that version bit please?

Mine is r93MP for example

I've just done a few hours driving to work and back and have some night time footage.

Here's a raw clip with total darkness plus city driving:

Been having a play to see what else you can do with these things - a bit more firmware info - some of this won't be of use to anyone but it's fun getting it!

      middleware: binyang@szbuild2 Thu Apr 24 14:07:30 CST 2014

Looks like ykhe@ykhen and binyang@szbuild2 seem to have something to do with the firmware - whoever they may be!

Do you have Access to the console or do you print the commands with autoexec?

All through autoexec.ash and then piping out to files - had a look and there are no files in the A or Z drives that you can capture though :(

Oh and to confirm like the other A7 devices if you change the system mode from NTSC to PAL it changes the FPS captured from 30 to 25 - bitrate stays the same which you would think means that each frame has a slightly higher bitrate in PAL, although you don't capture as many.
